Introduction

Serving humanity has always been recognized as a noble cause, while the nation that indulges itself into the welfare of others is also known for its noble cause. In a country like ours where majority population lives below the poverty line, serving the needy is more than a noble cause.
In Pakistan there are various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in imparting services to the mankind in different sectors but only few could be found engaged in the field of health.

Throughout the world demand of health services has dramatically changed from its major emphasis on primary healthcare to the new entrants of life-style related diseases like Heart disease, accidents, the most feared HIV (Aids), Hepatitis and the fast spreading Kidney failures. Keeping in view the monetary and human losses in large scale, there is no alternative to attract the attention of our health planners to match the demand of sufferings from renal diseases. The sufferings of poor patients from renal diseases either have no excess in terms of affordability or such services are meant only for the privileged class because the treatment is too costly.
In NWFP there are only two hospitals that provide emergency services to 20 per cent of the masses, while the remaining 80 per cent kidney patients belonging to the have-not strata of our society cannot afford the expensive treatment. So, the result is painful sufferings and ultimate death, and to combat this emerging misery of kidney failures a missionary group of small & medium enterprises from Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by Haji Abdul Hameed Gurwara, Chief Executive Javed & Co, Importer and Exporter and Khawaja Aftab Iqbal Chief Executive, Haji Noor Muhammad Tea Merchant Importer & Exporter Peshawar city joined hands. This missionary group then accepted the challenge with the sole charitable aims and objects, devoted to relieving the poor and “Helping the Helpless”, and in 1999 the same group set up an organization by the name of Ittefaq Traders Community Welfare Program (ITCWP).
